Course Description
What is First Aid at Work?
First Aid at Work (FAW) is a 3-day course designed for workplaces where there is a higher level of risk, or where a more in-depth level of training is required.
This goes beyond basic first aid.
It gives learners the ability to:
assess more complex situations
manage a wider range of injuries and illnesses
make decisions under pressure
It’s designed for people who may need to take control of an incident and manage a casualty until help arrives.
What the course feels like
This is not a classroom-heavy course.
From day one, you’ll be building practical skills.
Across the three days, you’ll:
practise core life-saving skills like CPR and AED use
work through common workplace emergencies
build confidence in assessing and managing casualties
apply what you’ve learned in realistic scenarios
As the course progresses, the level of challenge increases.
You’re not just learning what to do — you’re learning how to think and respond under pressure.
How the 3 days build
The course is structured to gradually develop both knowledge and confidence.
Day 1 – Core emergency skills
You’ll cover the foundations:
scene safety and casualty assessment
CPR and AED use
unresponsive casualties
choking, shock and bleeding
This is where everything starts.
Day 2 – Illness and medical emergencies
The focus shifts to recognising and managing conditions such as:
heart attacks and stroke
asthma and breathing problems
anaphylaxis
burns, poisoning and shock
You begin to build a wider understanding of how people present when unwell.
Day 3 – Injury, assessment and application
You bring everything together:
fractures, dislocations and spinal injuries
secondary survey and full casualty assessment
scenario-based practice
This is where confidence really starts to come together.

Cardiac arrest and CPR
Use of an AED
Unconscious casualties
Seizures

Shock
