Most learners do not fail because they are not capable. They struggle because they turn up cold.
FREC 3 is not impossible. It is not about being a medical genius. But it is a big step up from standard first aid.
You are expected to take in new language, new kit, new structures, patient assessments, scenarios, practical skills, and exams, all within a five-day course.
That can feel overwhelming if it is your first proper step into pre-hospital care.
By the end of day one, learners are often trying to make sense of:
DRCABC and the primary survey
catastrophic bleeding
airway management
oxygen therapy
patient assessment
clinical terminology
how to think under pressure
This prep series gives you the breathing room to understand the basics before the course starts.
What this actually is
This is a full pre-course preparation series for FREC 3.
Not a quick overview. Not recycled content.
It’s a structured set of lessons designed to give you a clear understanding of the key topics before you arrive on Day 1.
If you show up without preparation, you’ll still get through the course.
But if you come in having already seen this - everything lands quicker, makes more sense, and you’ll feel far more confident from the start.
This is not a replacement for your FREC 3 course. It prepares you to get more from it.
Your face-to-face FREC 3 course is where you practise, get coached, and prove competence.
This online series is designed to help you understand the core ideas before you arrive, so you are not hearing everything for the first time in the classroom.
It gives you time to pause, rewind, make notes, and build a basic understanding at your own pace.
So when the practical work starts, you are not trying to learn the language and the skill at the same time.
What the FREC 3 prep series covers
This series is broken down into focused lessons covering:
-
Welcome to FREC 3
Understand what FREC 3 is, who it is for, what the course involves, and what is expected from you as a learner.
-
Consent and Capacity
Learn the basics of consent, refusal, mental capacity, best interests, and how this applies in real pre-hospital situations.
-
Primary Survey
Get clear on DR C ABC, why it matters, and how to use it when a patient is seriously unwell or injured.
-
Catastrophic Bleeding
Understand life-threatening external bleeding, tourniquets, direct pressure, wound packing, and why speed matters.
-
Airway Management
Learn the basics of airway problems, head tilt chin lift, jaw thrust, postural drainage, suction, OPAs, and NPAs.
-
Basic Life Support and AED
Build confidence with recognising cardiac arrest, starting CPR, using an AED, and understanding the chain of survival.
-
Secondary Survey
Understand what comes after the primary survey, including D and E, top-to-toe checks, and gathering a clearer picture.
-
Observations
Learn what pulse, breathing rate, oxygen saturations, blood glucose, and other observations can tell you about a patient.
-
History Taking
Get to grips with PSAMPLER, SOCRATES, and how to ask better questions without sounding robotic.
-
Oxygen Therapy
Understand oxygen as a medicine, when it helps, when to be cautious, common delivery devices, and documentation.
-
Medical Terms & Anatomy & Physiology
Learn the key medical terms and basic anatomy behind breathing and circulation, explained in a simple, practical way without heavy textbook language.
-
Common Medical Emergencies
Build confidence recognising and managing common medical emergencies such as asthma, stroke, cardiac chest pain and anaphylaxis.

You will not know everything before you arrive. You are not meant to. But you will be far better prepared.
Built & delivered by clinicians who teach this every week
This series has been created by the team at NR Medical Training, a clinician-led training provider delivering FREC 3, FREC 4, ILS, first aid, and clinical skills training across the UK.
Our experienced instructors include Paramedics, EMTs and combat medics.
We teach this material in real classrooms, with real learners, using practical scenarios, proper kit, and honest feedback.
That matters, because this series is not written like a textbook. It is built around the things learners actually ask, struggle with, and need explained properly.

No. This is a preparation series. It does not replace the face-to-face FREC 3 course, practical assessments, or awarding body requirements.

It should help you arrive better prepared, but it does not guarantee a pass. You still need to attend the full course, take part in practical training, complete assessments, and meet the required standard.
-
You will get 12 months of access when you subscribe. This will automatically renew every year and you can cancel at any time.

Yes. In fact, that is exactly who it is built for. The series explains the basics clearly, without assuming you already know the language.
-
It explains the theory and decision-making behind practical skills, and shows skills in video based format, but you must practise and be assessed in person during your FREC 3 course.
