FREC 3 Course Description >

Dates: Monday 16th – Friday 20th March 2026
Location: Whipps Cross, London
Awarding Body: Qualsafe Awards
Course Length: 5 days (0900–1700)

Our open FREC 3 course in Whipps Cross, London provides the recognised foundation for anyone working in pre-hospital care. It’s ideal for event medics, close protection officers, fire and security personnel, or anyone looking to step into a responder role.

Completing FREC 3 also opens the door to progressing onto FREC 4, which is the next step for those looking to develop further in pre-hospital emergency care. If you already hold qualifications such as FPOS or RTACC, or if you are a serving firefighter, community first responder, or similar, you may be eligible to complete the shorter two-day FREC 3 RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) route instead.

The course is delivered by two experienced frontline clinicians and focuses on practical, scenario-based learning. You’ll cover trauma care, medical emergencies, airway management, patient assessment, and BLS, with plenty of hands-on practice using realistic kit and simulations.

The updated FREC 3 qualification now includes one multiple-choice exam and one anatomy and physiology paper. All other assessments are practical and ongoing. Optional modules—such as supraglottic airways, Entonox, blood glucose monitoring, Penthrox, and naloxone—are available where clinical governance and operational need can be evidenced.

Requalification is required every three years.

Dates: Monday 16th – Friday 20th March 2026
Times: 09:00 – 17:00
Location: Whipps Cross, London
Duration: 5 Days

Our First Response Emergency Care (FREC 3) course is designed for anyone working or moving into pre-hospital emergency care. You’ll gain the essential skills and confidence to deal with medical emergencies, trauma, and critical incidents.

Unlike many providers, we use two experienced clinicians on every course. That means more support, more feedback, and plenty of hands-on practice. Training is scenario-based, using realistic kit and mock patients, so what you learn feels directly relevant to the real world.

What you’ll learn

  • Scene safety and the primary survey

  • Patient assessment and vital signs

  • Major trauma and catastrophic bleeding

  • Airway management and oxygen therapy

  • Medical emergencies (cardiac, diabetic, stroke etc.)

  • AED use and basic life support

  • Communication, documentation, and handover

Optional modules such as supraglottic airways, Penthrox, naloxone, blood glucose monitoring, and Entonox may be available for learners with evidence of operational need and clinical governance arrangements.

Who’s it for?

Close Protection Officers, security staff, Fire Service personnel, event medics, and staff in high-risk industries. No previous clinical training is required - just a willingness to get stuck into five days of practical learning.

FREC 3 is also the recognised first step on the pathway to FREC 4, which builds on this qualification with advanced skills such as airway management, trauma care, and emergency medication administration.

If you already hold an FPOS, RTACC or other similar qualifications, you might be eligible fo a 2 day FREC 3 RPL conversion course instead of undertaking the full 5 day course.

Spaces are limited - book early to secure your place.
